Don't see the irony just because you are unaware of it. We were taught the word colloquialism in school before your time, before they changed it's meaning in the dictionary. It meant to use old time speech ,such as thee and thou etc. My response to this statement was "Now that seems ironic to me, because most people regard "thee and thou etc" as being formalized speech."
